How We Work and Where Our Data Comes From
One body of legal market evidence, held to the same rules on every engagement, and read by people who work in that market every day.
Sources
Where the evidence comes from
Law firm attorney listings and job postings
Licensed legal market databases that track attorneys at U.S. law firms and the jobs those firms post, plus our own collection from firms' websites.
Professional network data
Aggregate talent-pool data covering in-house, government and smaller employers that law firm databases miss. Always labeled separately, because it counts a different population.
Public records
Bar admissions, court dockets, regulator registries and public filings, where a question calls for them.
Our recruiting desk
Voll Recruiting runs attorney searches every week. What candidates are offered, why they move and how long seats take to fill is context no database carries.
Rules
What every figure we hand over follows
Every number is sourced and dated
Each figure in a deliverable says where it came from, how many data points sit behind it and when it was measured.
Aggregate, never individual
We report markets, firms and groups. We do not sell or deliver data about named individuals, and small groups are suppressed.
Thin evidence is flagged
When a cell rests on too few data points, the report says so instead of presenting a confident number.
Honest when the answer is no
If the market is thin, a target is fragile or a plan will not hire, the report says that plainly.
Confidential by default
Engagements, client names and findings are confidential. We do not publish who we work with.
Not legal advice
We are not a law firm. Structure, ethics, tax and investment questions belong with your advisers; we cover the market and the people.
Engagements
How an engagement runs
1
Scoping call
Thirty minutes on the decision you are making, the markets and practices involved, and your timeline.
2
Fixed-fee proposal
A written scope and a fixed fee, agreed before any work starts. No hourly meter.
3
The work
Most engagements take one to four weeks. Diligence work runs on your deal timeline.
4
Report and working session
A written report and a session with your team to walk through the findings and the options.
5
Refresh, if useful
Benchmarks and studies can be re-run on a schedule so you see the trend, not one snapshot.
About
The Voll Group
The Voll Group is the consulting practice of John Voll, founder of Voll Recruiting. The two are sister firms: Voll Recruiting runs attorney searches, and The Voll Group applies the same market view to questions that are not searches. Consulting fees are fixed and stand on their own; no engagement requires you to hire through Voll Recruiting.
